When talking to students, administrators, other parents, or anyone else — these data-driven quick tips of information will enable art advocates to explain the TRUTH about arts in education.
Without further ado, here they are!
Fact: 93% of Americans believe that the arts are vital to providing a well-rounded education.
Fact: Students with band and orchestra experience attend college at a rate twice the national average.
Fact: 83% of Americans believe that arts education helps teach to communicate effectively with adults and peers. Students with high arts involvement are 4x more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.
Fact: 73% of Americans agree that teens who play an instrument are less likely to have discipline problems.
Fact: 62% of Americans agree that the arts “helps me understand other cultures better.”
9 out of 10 adults and teenagers who play instruments agree that music making brings the family closer together.
Students with high arts involvement are 4x more likely to participate in a math & science fair.
Low-income students who are highly engaged in the arts are more than twice as likely to graduate college.
Young people with high arts involvement are 3x more likely to win an award for school attendance.
67% of Americans believe “the arts unify our communities regardless of age, race, and ethnicity.”
